AT Local southern trial reaches patronage milestone AT Local southern trial reaches patronage milestone

Date: 17 June 2022

Customers in Conifer Grove, Takaanini and Papakura have made 10,000 trips using AT Local since the trial ride-share service started running in October 2021.

To celebrate its success, Auckland Transport awarded $100 of AT HOP card credit to the customer who booked the 10,000th trip.

As the trial enters its final months, Auckland Transport will review the service’s performance and decide whether to make it a permanent offering after October.

AT Local is a new kind of public transport. There is no fixed route or timetable, customers get to choose when they travel, and the AT Local booking system plots the quickest route possible to get everyone where they’re going on time.

The service runs all day, seven days a week. There are nearly 400 pick-up and drop-off points in Conifer Grove, Takaanini and Papakura town centre, so customers only have a short walk (120 metres on average) at the start and end of their trip.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their support, as together, we reach this exciting milestone,” says AT’s Christian Messelyn, Group Manager Public Transport Development.

“We recently had our busiest week for AT Local ever, with 721 trips for the week ending 29 May. More people are now using AT Local than previously used the bus service that AT Local replaced. We are pleased with the service’s popularity out south and it’s been great to see the trial go well.”

“85 per cent of customers give AT Local a score of at least 8 out of 10, and cite convenience, punctuality, and our friendly drivers as highlights.”

 How to use the service:

  •  Trips on AT Local must be booked through the AT Local app (available for free through Google Play or the App Store) or by phoning 0800 2 LOCAL.
  •  Fares are currently half-price and all usual concessions, including Child and SuperGold, are accepted.
