About Auckland Transport's Māori Responsiveness Plan

Last updated: 26 March 2018

Auckland Transport (AT) is committed to meeting its responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi-the Treaty of Waitangi-and its broader legal obligations in being more responsible or effective to Māori.

The Māori Responsiveness Plan is part of our journey to be more effective for Māori. It demonstrates our commitment to work with 19 mana whenua tribes in delivering effective and well-designed transport policy and solutions for Auckland. We also recognise mataawaka and their representative bodies and our desire to foster a relationship with them.

Our plan outlines our commitment to meeting our legal and relationship commitments, and how we can be more responsive to Māori. We hope that we will all recognise the benefits of working in partnership and engaging with mana whenua. Through early and ongoing engagement, at both the governance and operational levels, we can develop transport policy, and design and deliver services and projects that reflect the Māori identity of Auckland.
