Significant progress has been made on Te Honohono ki Tai - Matakana link road in the last couple of months. The bridge is nearing completion with the installation of the barriers and bridge cycleway almost complete and bridge footpath in progress. The road pavement, footpaths, cycleway and landscaping are complete except the tie into the bridge. All drainage, rest areas, raingardens and wetlands complete and road streetlights are installed.

Most works cease over Christmas between 12pm 22 December until 9 January 202, however some critical path works will continue on non-statutory holiday days. In the New Year pavement works will continue along with bridge works, sign installs and line marking - alongside NX2/Waka Kotahi construction works at the intersection with SH1. Te Honohono ti Kai Road will open in tandem with the new Puhoi to Warkworth motorway.
