The Tāmaki-Makaurau Road Safety Governance Group recognises our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to transforming Māori safety outcomes under Article 2 of the Treaty.

Our Vision Zero takes a Treaty based approach, grounded in Te Ao Māori (Māori world view) to improve safety outcomes for Māori and well-being across the transport network in Auckland.

Partnership

Build relationships and work with whānau, hapū, iwi and hapori Māori to co-design strategies to improve Māori transport safety outcomes. Provide for Māori in decision-making and leadership in transport outcomes.

Protection

Ensure equitable outcomes for Māori. Māori cultural concepts, including te reo Māori me ona tikanga and Māori values are recognised and safeguarded.

Participation

Involve Māori participation and decision-making at all levels including governance. Design, fund and deliver Māori led transport safety programmes to improve Māori outcomes. Monitor and evaluate Māori safety programmes.
