Up until 2015, manual cycle monitoring was was conducted annually at 85 sites across the region.

Information collected includes:

• cyclists counts – morning and afternoon peaks,
• cyclists movements at intersections,
• gender,
• helmet wearing frequency,
• bike shed counts at schools,
• scooter counts at schools (new in 2014),
• counts of bikes parked at ferry terminals.

Data is no longer collected in this way as it is deemed more cost-effective to undertake counts as and when needed for specific projects.
