We've proposed changes in your area
In February 2020, we proposed new short-term parking restrictions in front of number 96 Captain Springs Road in Onehunga. The restrictions include approximately 13 on-street parking spaces restricted to P120 (2-hour) Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. These changes are needed to improve parking, which will be beneficial to local businesses whose customers are looking for short-term parking.

Proposal outcome
We have listened to community feedback and have decided that this proposal will not proceed to the next stage of detailed planning. The area already has a high parking demand and we have received strong opposition against restricting parking to P120 (2-hour). Most respondents felt that these parking restrictions would negatively impact commercial and industrial businesses whose staff need parking for more than 2 hours. This shows us that most local businesses are not in support of these parking restrictions.
Thank you to everyone who responded to our proposal and gave us the chance to better understand your community and concerns. A summary of this feedback is below.
Community feedback
- Described a parking area adjacent to 83 Captain Springs Road, that is only used for a short period on Wednesdays and rest of the time is empty. It might be private but expressed it is a wasted space. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The space mentioned adjacent to 83 Captain Springs Road are indeed private and Auckland Transport has no authority to make any changes to these spaces. We suggest raising this with the property owner. Due to lack of support from the community for time restricted parking, we will not be going ahead with the proposal.
- Concern the proposal would intensify the pressure of parking on grass berms and other unorthodox parking practices. We have listened to community feedback and have decided that this proposal will not proceed to the next stage of detailed planning
- Concern about visiting the nearby park (Waikaraka Park) and not having a place to park that is long enough for events (soccer and cricket). We have listened to community feedback and have decided that this proposal will not proceed to the next stage of detailed planning
- Concern over limited parking availability in this area for full-time staff and will negatively impact these commercial and industrial businesses. Furthermore, explained Captain Springs Road also provides parking for businesses located on Nielsen Street, as there is limited parking on that street. We have listened to community feedback and have decided that this proposal will not proceed to the next stage of detailed planning
