Why the changes are needed

After investigation, it is considered that the clearway is no longer necessary at this location as specified in the drawing.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.

Feedback received

  • Concern that the removal of the clearway will create congestion on Kimber Hall Avenue during school pick-up and drop-off times. The clearway provides passing room for vehicles travelling in opposite directions. Management of traffic on Kimber Hall Avenue during school pick-up and drop-off times is required. A site investigation found that there was not a high vehicle demand during school drop-off and pick-up times. Reinstating parking will assist with speed calming on the road as parking visually narrows the carriageway. This will increase safety for pedestrians during the pick-up/drop-off times. We will monitor Kimber Hall Avenue following the removal of the clearway for operational issues.
  • Suggestion to increase signage and/or install broken yellow lines in place of the clearway. The intention of this proposal is to remove the existing clearway restriction and reinstate on-street parking. As such, the installation of additional signs or broken yellow lines is not considered necessary for this project.
  • Concern that removal of the clearway will make it more difficult for vehicles to exit 33-39 Kimber Hall Avenue. Auckland Transport have investigated visibility concerns at these driveways. As Kimber Hall Avenue is a local road, it is considered that there is sufficient visibility with vehicles parked to safely exit the driveways.
