We're proposing changes in your area

We are proposing new broken yellow line restrictions on either side of bus stops 3839 and 3970 at the intersection of Eban Avenue and Ocean View Road, in Hillcrest. This proposal involves the removal of a number of car parks, and the shifting of the bus stops north by approximately 3 metres.

Why the changes are needed

These changes are needed to help reduce congestion and improve movement of cars at the intersection with Ocean View Road where vehicles are currently able to park. The proposed works will bring the stop up to operational standards.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.

Feedback received

  • Concerns that the parking changes will cause the parking issues to move further down the road to outside a customer's property, and that there are already visibility issues when entering and exiting the driveway. For operational reasons, it is necessary to make the proposed changes. Considering Eban Avenue is a very wide road, vehicles parking at this location provides traffic calming which reduces the speeds along this road, and therefore, improving safety.
  • Traffic lights should be installed at the roundabout at Lake Road and Ocean View Road, to better cope with the volume of traffic. Thank you for your suggestion. This proposal aims to address the queuing problem on Eban Avenue so we cannot address your concerns as part of this proposal. However, we will investigate this issue, which has been passed on to the appropriate team.

Next steps

This work will happen between July 2018 and June 2019, but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays. Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
