Why the changes are needed

These changes are expected to support local businesses by ensuring an adequate amount of car parks are available for customers during business hours.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.

Feedback received

  • Suggestion to extend timeframe of parking to 8pm. After investigations on site we believe that the standard timeframe of 8am to 6pm should be sufficient to cover the requirements and demands of the businesses. If demand should rise outside of these times then visitors should be able to find suitable, alternative parking spaces within a short distance.
  • Suggestion to also implement time restricted parking on the road oppossite these shops. After our investigations on site we believe that the 8 spaces in the proposal will be enough to accommodate the businesses and community’s needs.
  • Suggestion to move parking back and install some 'No stopping at all times' parking restrictions as cars currently will park right up to driveways and block visibility and access for road users and pedestrians. The area where we have proposed time restricted parking doesn't include vehicle entrances. As such, visibility and access for road users and pedestrians shouldn’t be limited or restricted. However if you see vehicles parking illegally or in a dangerous manor please contact our call centre anytime on 093553553 with vehicle details and enforcement will be arranged.
  • Concern that removal of on-street parking will negatively affect residents, particularly during events & suggestion to improve signage to direct customers to carpark at back of building rather than removal of on-street parking. Our aim is to improve the parking turnover outside of the businesses and shops by re-prioritising its usage. We are not removing any on-street parks. We believe the existing on-street parking supply will still be enough to cater for the resident’s needs. Parking restrictions will apply from 8am until 6pm.

Next steps

This work will happen between September 2018 and June 2019 but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays.

Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
