AT proposed installing a right turn bay from Alfriston Road into Alfriston-Ardmore Road with localised widening of the road to retain the through lanes on Alfriston Road.

Why the changes are needed

We have identified an opportunity to improve operation and safety at this intersection. By providing a turning bay for vehicles, in particular heavy trucks, turning right from Alfriston Road into Alfriston-Ardmore Road, operation of through traffic along Alfriston Road is not impacted.

Feedback

The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback

  • Suggestion that Alfriston-Ardmore Road be widened to allow for 2 lane stacking capacity at the intersection. When reviewing this intersection we can see that this lane currently operates informally as 2 lanes and further design work around this approach is not required.
  • Request that the speed limit be lowered to 80km/hr on Alfriston-Ardmore Road, Alfriston Road and Brookby Road. The speed limit on the affected roads is not something that will be looked at as part of this project we will however pass on your concerns to the appropriate team within Auckland Transport.

Next steps

We expect to introduce this work between July 2018 and June 2019, subject to further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue notices to all affected residents prior to construction work.
