Why the changes are needed

These changes are needed to improve efficiency at the intersection and reduce the frequency of the westbound queue extending well beyond the railway crossing.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback. A summary of this feedback and answers to community questions and concerns is below.

Feedback received

  • Please monitor the car yard as I feel they are using resident’s parking to promote their vehicles. We understand your concern, as on street parking is a valuable neighbourhood asset that is to be shared between residents, businesses and visitors. There are no regulations that would prohibit the importer from parking cars on the (north) side of the road after the scheme has been implemented.
As the importer does have an existing on site car park they should use that initially. We have not observed the importer using the street to promote vehicles ourselves.
  • Question if the new restriction can be during peak hours only. This proposal aims to improve efficiency at the intersection, and reduce the queues extending well beyond the level crossing. We’ve found the traffic volumes on Manuroa Road to be relatively similar throughout the day. Saturday is also as busy as the weekdays. Hence the parking restrictions should apply at all times, not just at peak times.

Next steps

This work will happen before July 2019, but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays.

Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
