Taking risks at intersections can result in serious injury and even death. In Auckland between 2011 and 2015, intersection crashes resulted in the death of 45 people, with 627 being seriously injured. Most were caused by people failing to give way or stop at the signs, or through poor observation.
Auckland Transport is committed to improving safety at intersections and helping to reduce the number of death and serious injury crashes. You could receive a $150 fine and 20 demerit points if you fail to stop at a stop sign, or fail to give way at roundabouts, or at give way intersections.
