Why the changes are needed
This street has existing broken yellow lines to the east and west of the proposed location. The narrow kerbside parking width is causing visibility issues for vehicles exiting 146 Marua Road. Our aim is to connect the two existing No Stopping At All Times restrictions.
Proposal outcome
This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. A summary of the community feedback we received and answers to questions and concerns is below.
Feedback received
- The removal of car parking space will affect anyone who currently uses it, and the cars parked in this area do not cause a safety concern. The current kerb-side width is 4.2 metres, which is insufficient for a normal size vehicle. The front and/or back of the vehicle parked in this space would overhang on to adjacent driveways, resulting in access issues. Visibility is also limited due to parked vehicles.
We have investigated this issue, and determined that there is sufficient parking on the opposite side of the road, which people can utilise. - It appears Auckland Transport is more concerned with supporting cyclists and pedestrians, but more support should be provided to motorists by increasing the parking facilities, and not removing them. We have determined that parking removal at this location is required due to safety and access concerns.
Next steps
This work will happen in between July 2018 and June 2019, but we will let you know if there are further changes or delays.
Our contractors will send notices to affected residents 48-hours prior to construction starting.
