Project overview
We are improving the South Western Cycle Link and conducting road maintenance along Hendry Avenue in Hillsborough. These works will make it safer and easier for everyone to travel down Hendry Avenue however they’re travelling.
Project details
In response to requests from the community, the Puketāpapa local board, and our own investigations, we’re making upgrades to Hendry Avenue in early 2023 to improve the Southwestern Cycleway link and make the road safer for everyone.
The works will make the cycleway clearer for cyclists by painting green road markings and encourage lower speeds by installing raised crossings and speed bumps. Lower speeds will make Hendry Avenue safer for everyone, whether they are driving, walking, running, or cycling.
Construction is starting in late March and is scheduled to be completed in July 2023.
The work will involve closing Hendry Avenue and setting up detours. If you live somewhere along a closed road, traffic controllers at either end of the road will help you.

From the 28 November 2022 to the 16 December 2022, we consulted on the proposed safety improvements along Hendry Avenue in Hillsborough. We received a total of 61 submissions.
