Cheaper AT HOP cards
A HOP card makes public transport easy by simply tagging on and off buses, trains and ferries using one card to pay for your entire journey.
From 1 April 2022 to 30 June 2023, the purchase price of a new HOP card will be reduced, excluding the purchase of pre-loaded HOP cards.
A pre-loaded HOP card is a card you can purchase that has credit, also referred to as HOP Money, already loaded on it, to use across AT travel services. For example a $20 pre-loaded card comprises of a $10 card fee and $10 HOP Money. As a pre-loaded HOP card is pre-configured, we cannot apply the discount to it.
The HOP Money on a HOP card will not be discounted, instead you’ll receive the 50% discount on your fare when you tag on and off your bus, train or ferry journey. This means you’ll be spending less on each trip and your HOP Money will last you longer.
HOP cards sold online via AT’s website usually cost $15, comprising of a $10 card fee and $5 HOP Money. During the offer the 50% discount will apply to the card fee. This means the overall price will be reduced to $10, comprising of a $5 card fee and $5 HOP Money.
AT HOP cards sold at HOP retailers or customer service centres usually cost $10, this will halve to $5. A minimum top up of $1 is also required in order to activate the card when you tag on. Search the map to find a retailer close to you, please note, that retailers who only sell pre-loaded cards, are excluded.
Existing conditions still apply:
- The $5 card purchase price is non-refundable.
- Key tags and gold AT HOP cards cannot be purchased online.

AT HOP monthly passes half price
AT HOP monthly passes are an even better deal with 50% off.
Monthly passes are loaded onto AT HOP cards and provide unlimited travel on the services listed for each pass, for one calendar month from the first day of use.
A maximum of two monthly passes of the same type can be loaded on your HOP card, but only one can be loaded at a time. Once this first monthly pass has been activated, a second monthly pass can be loaded on to the card.
HOP monthly passes can be purchased online or from an AT HOP retailer, top-up machine or AT customer service centre.
Please note, the monthly pass price does not include the (non-refundable) $5 one-off purchase price of an AT HOP card.
Refunds on AT HOP monthly passes purchased before 1 April 2022
If you have purchased a HOP monthly pass that will have active days remaining on it to be used between 1 April 2022 and 30 June 2023, you will be refunded 50% of the total value of these days. Any days used on your pass before 1 April 2022, won’t be refunded.
If you have purchased a HOP monthly pass but haven’t activated it until 1 April 2022 to 30 June 2023, then you will be refunded 50% of the total cost of the pass.
The refund will be applied as credit to your HOP card and can be used towards purchasing your next monthly pass.
$20 daily fare cap halved
The AT HOP daily fare cap usually $20, will be halved to $10. Travel all day on trains, buses and ferries by tagging on and off with your AT HOP card and never pay more than $10.
Get a further 50% off AT Concessions
If you already have a concession on your AT HOP card, you’ll save even more with 50%* off the fare you would normally pay, excluding Total Mobility fares above $80.
Concessions include:
- Child and secondary student fares
- Tertiary student fares
- Accessible fares and the Total Mobility Scheme
- Senior citizen and SuperGold card fares
How the 50% discount applies to the Total Mobility Scheme
The Total Mobility Scheme (TM) provides eligible customers with a 50% subsidy on cash fares below our $80 subsidy cap when travelling in AT contracted TM taxis.
From 1 April 2022 you will get a further 50%* off TM cash fares below the $80 cap. This makes an effective 75% discount off the fare. This discount will be permanent for TM customers from April 2023.
- For example, if the full cash fare usually costs $20 and your TM subsidised fare is $10, you will only pay $5.
For TM fares more than $80, you will continue to pay 100% of the fare amount over and above the $80 cap.
- For example, if the full fare is $120, you will be subsidised up to the $80 cap, this means with the TM subsidy and half price fares you get a $60 subsidy. You will have to pay 100% of the fare above $80, which is $40. All together the fare would be $60.
The following table shows what you will pay for Total Mobility services.
