Waitangi Day Rail Closures Waitangi Day Rail Closures
Auckland’s rail network will be closed from Friday 6 February (public holiday) to Sunday 8 February 2026 for essential track and rail infrastructure upgrades.
Key Projects
The Waitangi Day rail closure will allow KiwiRail and Auckland Transport to continue essential work on the rail corridor ahead of City Rail Link opening in the second half of 2026. This work will include:
-
Continuing the Henderson Station upgrade, that will provide a third platform and additional tracks at Henderson Station ahead of City Rail Link opening.
-
Progressing the Level Crossing Programme at Takaanini, Te Mahia and Glen Innes Stations that will see new pedestrian overbridges – making these stations safer and more accessible.
-
Ongoing work in the Parnell rail tunnel.
-
Rail track tampering and destressing work, to provide additional resilience to our rail network.
