Opposite #9 Glenesk Road
- Landslide is approximately 34 m in width and approximately 5 – 6 m from road level to water level. The landslide is located on the bank of a stream / river. The landslide has impacted the shoulder of the road but has not reduced the width of the roadway itself.
- Temporary traffic lights/Asphalt bunding/ Polythene sheeting are in place until repairs are completed.
Opposite #17 Glenesk Road
- The riverbank has slumped undermining part of the road / footpath and the end of the neighbouring retaining wall.
- This location is right above Piha stream which will have to be considered during the Design phase.
- Traffic cones have been placed on the side of the road to warn traffic of the hazard and will remain until the road is repaired. AC bunds in place to prevent with further scouring.
- We will continue to monitor these sites until works starts.

19 December 2023
Works at 73 Piha Road are completed.
27 October 2023
Work has continued this week, with the pouring of more concrete. The timber lagging (the horizontal boards between the piles) are also being installed.

20 October 2023
Progress has been made on the retaining wall with half of the piling work completed. Pouring of the concrete based commenced today.
Once construction is complete on the Western side of the road, we will need to reinstate the swale (drainage) on the otherside of the road. We had to fill in this swale to provide safe passage during construction. We will need to remove the fill after the retaining wall and road is completed.

10 October 2023
Downer and their subcontractors are making steady progress. The swale on the Eastern side has been filled and the vegetation cleared to allow for safe vehicle movement, ecologists were on site while this work was carried out.
A bench below the slip was constructed on Monday 2nd of October to allow for the drilling works to be undertaken. During this process, rock was found at a lower depth than expected. This has proved a challenge for our team and required a slight deviation in the speed of our program.
The team are working hard to manage the best flow of traffic. Any work that may require a Stop-Stop in both directions isn’t carried out at peak times.
19 September 2023
Work is set to begin on Monday 26th September for a 6-week period.
Downer on behalf of Auckland Transport will be constructing a steel beam with timber lagging retaining wall outside number 73 Piha Road.
Week 1 will require crews to be operating at night. This is necessary to safely widen the road to allow for vehicle movement in/out of Piha. Work will include tree trimming and filling in the swale on the Northern side. In order to reduce the impacts of congestion, it is necessary to carry out the widening of the road at night.
A lane closure will be required with a Stop/Go in place. We anticipate this to be in place for no more than 10 minutes at a time.
Notification to residents was delivered Tuesday 19th September.
