Update about removing the raised intersection

In 2022, Auckland Transport built raised crossings at the intersection of Takanini School Road and Manuroa Road. This was to make it safer for children walking to and from the nearby school.

But people living nearby have told us that trucks and other large vehicles going through the intersection make it noisy and cause vibrations.

The changes we're making in summer 2025 to 2026

After hearing from nearby residents, we have decided to remove the raised intersection. This will help reduce vibrations and make the area quieter for people living nearby. We thought about flattening the intersection. However, we found out that this would not fully stop the vibrations.

Benefits to your community

The work will keep pedestrian safety a priority while fixing the issues caused by the raised intersection.

Vibration and noise will no longer be an issue for nearby residents.

Background

In June 2021, we proposed changes to improve pedestrian and road user safety at the intersection of Takanini School Road and Manuroa Road. We proposed to install traffic lights and raise the intersection because the location was identified as high-risk. Thirty-six crashes were reported at the intersection between 2015 and 2019.
