New Zealander Scott McLaughlin is Auckland Transport’s Road Safety Ambassador for 2019.

In 2018, Scott won the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, becoming the youngest person to win it at age 25. He was also voted Most Popular Supercars Driver in 2017 and 2018. He is very passionate about working with AT and assisting us with our road safety programmes especially Young Drivers.

“I drive for a living, but I know when you’re on the road, where there are people walking, cycling and others driving, that you need to be safe”, says Scott, “there is just too much at risk.”

Road crashes are the leading cause of death for New Zealanders aged 16 to 24 years. Young drivers are more vulnerable to crashes because they are still developing, both physically and mentally, and it takes time and practice to develop safe driving skills. Auckland Transport works tirelessly with schools and the local community to help reduce deaths and serious injuries.
